Many scoff at the idea that this world will come to an end, but one person does not. He believes the world is drastically changing and he has a different idea of how it may happen.
English writing freshman John Ellison recently finished writing his book “Light Pollution” and will be handing out copies of it to everyone and anyone who would like one.
The story follows a young man named “Jack” and his interactions with others as the world comes to an end. Dreams and reality intertwine as time itself accelerates.
The title “Light Pollution” came about from a road trip with his older brother to Moab, Utah where Ellison experienced something enlightening.
“We arrived at 1:30 a.m., and incidentally it was the new moon or no moon. There was absolutely no light pollution, so we could see the Milky Way Galaxy in its entirety. It looked like sparkling white powder scattered across a spherical, granite countertop.” Ellison said.
Based on the idea that the knowledge in his mind, compared to the unknown, is the same as the stars in the sky compared to the Darkness, Ellison knew more at that moment than he would in his entire life.
“Light Pollution is a metaphor for Darkness imitating Light, which (is) preventing us from seeing the truth. Man-made light prevents us from seeing the true Light: The Sun, stars and moon. Man-made light prevents us from obtaining true happiness. Most of us have lost true Light and true love. I want to help people find it, as a return for them helping me.” Ellison said.
Ellison began working on “Light Pollution” in the fall 2009 semester and light and darkness are reoccurring themes throughout the work as a whole.
“I had a spiritual revelation that started the day Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize (Oct. 9, 2009), and climaxed on Oct. 14, 2009 in Biever Hall room 302.” Ellison said. “The time-line unveiling the progression of the end of time was finished at 4:44 a.m. I proceeded to write until well after sunrise.”
The inspiration for the book came from events in Ellison’s life. The most influential was a “spiritual attack” in the fourth grade, which showed him eternal darkness and light in the same night.
“The hardest part in the book to write was the beginning. I had 160 pages written and in March 2009 when my hard drive failed. It erased everything, and gave me a chance to rethink and start anew. Afterwards, ‘Light Pollution’ evolved into a story I could have never previously conceived. It has become my life.” Ellison said.
Ellison has learned more through the lens of “Light Pollution” than all else in his life.
“I’ve come to understand the best teachers are the people around me. Each person has a beautiful story to share, and all you have to do is listen.” Ellison said.
The main message Ellison wants his book to deliver is to love.
“There is going to be a global depression after the 2012 election that causes the value of all currency to evaporate. The world does not end on Dec. 12, 2012, but the rise of the Antichrist is Dec. 23, 2012.” Ellison said. “Don’t waste your time pursuing anything but what you truly love. Learn to ‘love all, serve all and create no sorrow.'”
“Light Pollution” has not yet been published and Ellison is in the process of sending out copies to publishers. Copies of “Light Pollution” will also be available as an eBook on www.whatislight.net.
