    Battle of the Bands preview

    Sister Midnight

This new Southern rock band will keep you rocking all night with their heavy guitar leads and banging drums. Sister Midnight consists of Daniel Dalton on lead vocals and guitar, guitarist Hap “Hazzard” Hinners, bassist Joshua Price, and music industries studies senior Steve Stokes on drums. The self-proclaimed “sleaziest band of New Orleans” gets its influences from the likes of Aerosmith, AC/DC, and Guns N’ Roses.

    The City Life

After the release of their new single “White Elephant,” these pop-rockers are preparing for the release of their new album “Gone is the World.” With a loyal fan-base named the City Lifers, this band never fails to put on a show and pack the house. With Leo DeJesus, A’07, on vocals and guitar, Lucy Gossett on keyboard, Tommy Delbert on guitar, Aaron Souvinette on bass and Brian Patrick Muller on drums, the band is no stranger to Battle of the Bands – they performed last year and placed third in the national MEISA Battle of the Bands.

    Big Rock Candy Mountain

Steering away from the hard rock of Sister Midnight, New Orleans supergroup Big Rock Candy Mountain brings a different sound to the mix. Citing influences like Creedence Clearwater Revival and Led Zeppelin, BRCM consists of drummer Leo DeJesus, who does double duty for BRCM and fellow Battle contestant The City Life, while music industries studies seniors Stephen Macdonald, bass, and Michael Girardot, keyboards, are also members of local favorite Antenna Inn and Fay Wray, and guitarist Andrew Hartsock, graphic design senior, who also plays with Silent Cinema.

    The Revivalists

With influences from American roots music to jazz and funk, The Revivalists feature Columbus, Ohio native and lead singer Dave Shaw, who came to New Orleans looking for something new. Shaw then befriended guitarist Zack Feinberg, drummer and music business junior Andrew Campanelli and bassist Mike Burn. After successful gigs at Tipitina’s, the band will open for Afroman at The Frat House April 29.

    The River Company

As the only band not from the New Orleans area, this Ocean Springs, Miss. band is also the only one signed to a record label. Having opened for The Charlie Daniels Band and REO Speedwagon, the River Company fuses rock with psychedelic pop, borrowing from bands like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and The Beatles. The multi-instrumentalist band includes Alex Scharr on vocals, bass and piano; Jamie Favors on guitar and vocals; Bradley Dale on percussion, keyboards, guitar and vocals; and Clay Bates on drums, guitar and vocals.
