A study conducted at the University of Oregon identified a link between college football team performance and non-athlete academic performance. Jason Lindo, an assistant professor of economics at the University of Oregon, co-wrote the study evaluating the relationship. Lindo and his team found that the GPAs of the male students at the university declined when their football team, the Ducks, won. “The team’s success significantly reduces male grades relative to female grades,” the study said. “Our results support the concern that big-time sports are a threat to American higher education,” the authors asserted.
