The Oscar-nominated Javier Bardem gives a harrowing performance in writer/director Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Oscar nominee for Best Foreign Language Film, “Biutiful,” as a Spanish father contemplating his impending death, the implication of his illegal activities and the future of his children. Iñárritu has still not lived up to his potential of his debut feature “Amores Perros” with the release of his latest: an overly-long melancholy examination of human existence that continues his career trajectory of depressing and (at this point) redundant subject matter.
