In an email The Rev. Kevin Wildes, S.J., sent to university staff on Friday, February 7, Wildes said 18 university employees were cut from the university.

These employees were offered severance packages, according to the email.

Wildes said in this email that these employees made up “less than two percent of the university’s workforce.”

Wildes said none of the academic programs within the university are being “altered” by these staff cuts.

Wildes said these cuts are going to have an effect on the budget for the current academic year.

“This reduction in force, combined with attrition and the success of the VSP will effectively balance the University’s budget for FY 13-14,” Wildes said in the email.

Wildes said that an additional number of university employees will be cut and will be offered severance packages.

“Because Loyola now has fewer students in its early common curriculum classes and expects a similar first-year class size in the fall, contracts for approximately 12 extraordinary faculty members will not be renewed in April,” Wildes said in the email.

This comes after the university reduced its $7.5 million budget deficit by $2.4 million with the voluntary severance program, leaving the university to remedy the remaining $5.1 million deficit.
