Now that half of the semester has come and gone, reality is beginning to sink in. With summer around the corner, this is the time students usually begin to search for internships and jobs.
Loyola offers its students the Career Development Center to lead them in the right direction, according to its counselors.
This office helps students ease into the real world after graduating. According to the office, there are professionals there to help with resumes, cover letters, graduate school applications and job or internship searches.
“We try to offer information panels on a spectrum of careers. All students are invited,” said Diana Noveck, office manager for both the Career Development Office and the University Counseling Center. “It gives them an opportunity to ask professionals questions about what it takes to get started on that particular career path.”
The Career Development Center will host many networking events during the spring semester that provide students networking opportunities, including a dinner party, said Noveck.
“We will be sponsoring a dinner called DINEworleans,” Noveck said. “Hosted at an alumni’s home, select juniors and seniors are invited to dine and network with local professionals, comprised mostly of Loyola alumni.”
According to Jan Moppert, career coach and associate director of Internships, students are assigned a counselor who works with them.
“Visit and get to know your career coach,” Moppert said. “Every student’s needs are unique, and unless we know the student we can’t tell them the main thing to help them. The solutions start flowing once you get to know the students.”
