The women’s volleyball team has wrapped up their season, finishing with an overall record of 20-15.
This past week the women competed in the GCAC Tournament, where they pretty much killed the competition until they got beat in the final round by Mobile but that’s just a small technicality.
Sucks, agreed, but the team is still very young, and with no seniors on the team, next year the women can build on this years season and hopefully bring home the win.
On the bright side, shout out to Gina Gill, Sam Worsham and Rachel Roth for being named ALL-GCAC.
Now, Loyola men’s basketball, all I can say is it’s going to be an exciting season watching these guys. This team looks completely different from what we saw last season, and the growth and chemistry between the players in highly evident.
For those of you who’ve been snoozing on the ‘Pack, they have scored over 90 points in every game played this season, and hold a record of 3-0.
Sports for dummies Break: If you’re thinking, “How are we 3-0 and we lost to Tulane?”
Well that game is what we call an exhibition game and it doesn’t really count. You’re welcome for the clarification.
Every game that these men have been playing in has been a physical one; however, the team has been doing a better job with their fouling out problem, and by team I mean Darrinton Moncrieffe.
Granted, although the team as a whole has been receiving more personal fouls against them, it’s more because they have become a more defensively physical team then what they were in the past, so once they learn how to control their defensive attempts, resulting in rebounds, steals and blocks instead of personal fouls, the team will be better off.
It seems Nick Tuszynki has started the season off on the right foot, doing every right and contributing majorly to the scoring game of the ‘Pack. Especially during the Loyola vs. Tulane game where Tuszynki tied for third leading scorer with Cameron Cates for 11 points.
So in a nut shell the teams season is looking bright and with the continuation of Ryan Brock and Sean Bennett’s 20+ points per game, and the teams overall defensive improvement, it’ll be a good season to watch.
Also, something new has been brought to Loyola athletics, the men’s JV team. Although the men lost all three home games that have taken place in The Den, it gave valuable playing time to those individuals who don’t get many minutes during the varsity games.
These games serve as a window for underclassman such as Chris Joseph, Corey Gray and Cameron Cates to showcase and improve their skills.
