Loyola students and alumni in 12 cities across America will be putting their Jesuit values into action Saturday morning, Nov. 7, at Wolves on the Prowl.
Wolves on the Prowl is an annual day of service where alumni, students and volunteers from the Loyola community across 13 cities, including New Orleans, come together to assist charities in their respective cities.
The Tampa and St. Petersburg alumni chapter has canceled their scheduled Wolves on the Prowl 2009 event according to their Web page.
Sponsored by the Loyola Alumni Association and Student Government Association, Wolves on the Prowl 2009 “is an opportunity for students and alumni to interact with local communities that reflect the reality of the world around them, and inspire them to act,” said David Robinson-Morris, Associate Director of Alumni Relations in a Loyola press release.
“I believe, if you are student at Loyola University New Orleans, you have a natural bent toward social justice, which is further developed through your studies both in and out of the classroom at Loyola,” Robinson-Morris said in an e-mail.
According to Robinson-Morris, over 300 students, alumni, faculty and staff in New Orleans and 200 in the other cities across America are expected to volunteer this year.
The alumni association’s Community Service Committee chose the locations volunteers will work in New Orleans, he said. The committee contacts each site, discusses each project and determines which projects Loyola can help the most.
The committee consisted of SGA representatives, the alumni association, Young Alumni Pack and Loyola staff.
“Next year, the Office of Alumni Relations will work to expand the membership to the committee to include a broader spectrum of the university community,” Robinson-Morris said.
