I just love looking at a computer screen with the word “closed” written over and over again.
So you can imagine how happy I was when I saw this on my screen when sophomores were finally allowed to register.
Almost every class I tried to enroll in was already full, and my roommate wasn’t even allowed to register because her adviser had not entered the correct code.
I am not complaining because sophomores are last to register for classes, because I think that seniors and juniors should be first. However, the reason why freshmen go first is beyond me.
I am complaining because there are never enough classes offered and the system doesn’t always work the way it is supposed to.
For example, a science class that requires a lab may have 80 openings in the lecture but only 30 spots in the lab.
It is clear that 50 people will be left out and will have to take the class next semester, long after they’ve finished the lecture.
That just doesn’t make sense.
Another example of how the registration process fails is that LORA is never open or closed when it is supposed to be.
For example, sophomores were supposed to begin registration Friday at 8 a.m., but many realized that LORA was open at 12:30 a.m.
This is unfair to the people who were following the rules and got up early to register because they didn’t know about the system’s flaw.
The process also makes me angry because many advisers don’t seem to care, and many don’t know what they are doing.
My roommate e-mailed and called her advisor numerous times when she realized she couldn’t register.
After five days of this, her adviser still hadn’t responded. Essentially, she is being penalized because her adviser screwed up.
She still hasn’t been able to register, and that may prevent her from getting into pharmacy school next semester because she has to meet specific course requirements to be admitted.
It is clear to me after enrolling this semester that the system needs to be looked at, and advisers themselves need advising so they properly advise students and clear them for enrollment.
LORA also needs to work properly so that students can register fairly and effectively.
