In the first round of games for the Co-Recreational Basketball Ignatius League, the Bad Apples defeated Loyola Asian Student Organization/Muslim Student Association in two straight matches.
The Bad Apples won the first game, 58-54, on Feb. 10. They followed that victory with a blowout win over LASO/MSA, 61-31. The Bad Apples are the number one team in the Co-Recreational League with a record of 2-0.
Phi Psi is leading the Maroon League with an unblemished 4-0 record after victories over BOLO BOLO, LASO/MSA, MacGuiver Squad and the Bad Apples.
The leading scorer for the Maroon League is Peter Barnitz of SAK, who is averaging 20.3 points per game with 61 points, nine rebounds and four assists in just three games played. SAK ranks second in the league with a 3-0 record.
The Bad Apples rank third in the Maroon League with a 3-1 record. Three of their scorers, Scott Gilliland (47 points), Ernesto Berkowitz (39 points) and Jay Ryter (18 points), are in the top 20 of the entire league.
In the Women’s Basketball Havoc League, Theta Phi Alpha is leading the way with a 2-0 record following victories over Black Student Union Coldhearted Killaz and Gamma Phi Beta. The leading scorer for the women’s league is Gamma Phi’s Kim Talbot with 20 points and 6 rebounds in 2 games. The championship tournament commences on March 17, at 9:00 p.m. to crown the newest Loyola Intramural Basketball champion. The women’s league champion will be decided March 11, at 9:00 p.m.
