Anna Hall, SGA president and music business senior, said that there are no classes scheduled for All Saints Day, Friday, Nov. 1, but teachers still may require students to attend classes because it is also a make-up day to make up for classes due to Tropical Storm Isidore and Hurricane Lili.
Study Day, Dec. 5, is also reserved as a study day, and students should have received an email from Lydia Voigt, interim provost, about those days.
Rescheduling classes will be left up to indivual professors’ discretion.
The Student Government Association is preparing for Loyola Week and students should prepare for a week of fun, Hall said.
A discussion about Jesuit tradition is scheduled for Tuesday during the window, and a night Mass, sponsored by SGA, is scheduled for the same day at 9 p.m. in the residential quad.
Beginning Wednesday, Jesuit Identity T-Shirts will be on sale by the SGA. On Thursday, the Jesuit Center will unveil banners featuring the Jesuit values at the Danna Center.
Hall encourages all students to participate in the activities.
Four up-and-coming bands will perform in a University Programming Board sponsored program called “You Saw it First” on Friday at 3:30 p.m. in the Peace Quad.
The Women’s Chorale will perform in Roussel Hall Friday at 7 p.m.
In other business, Barbie Frie, international business sophomore was announced as the new College of Business Representative.
Melanie Rahman, music therapy freshman, was voted in as the new College of Music Representative.
Mary Grace Stewart, political science junior, reported on the Health Assistant issue brought up by constituents in previous meetings. She said that there isn’t much business for the Health Assistants from 5 to 11 p.m. at night and that most injuries occur in the Rec Plex, where she said there is someone on duty to help those who are injured.
She encourages SGA members to urge students to call the University Police, who are trained in CPR, to help with necessary concerns and said if an ambulance is needed it will be called.
Cathy Chopin, political science senior, suggested to SGA members that they promote an SGA forum during the window in the future to help students understand exactly what the SGA is all about. She said that many students do not understand and it is the job of the SGA members to inform them. It was decided to hold the forum in conjunction with a constituency week.
