In response to the threat of Tropical Storm Isidore, which ravaged Grand Isle and resulted in a three-and-a-half-day holiday, Loyola postponed its events for the weekend of Sept. 29-Oct. 1.
The weekend following Isidore, two male cross-country athletes participated in the Louisana State University Invitational. The meet was still held because the hurricane did little damage to Baton Rouge. However, only two runners were still in the city to run on the waterlogged course.
According to cross country Head Coach Paul Garvey, the storm did not effect his team too badly.
“In cross country, we can get good work in and not run in meets,” he said. “It is not the same as competition, but it is not as bad as some sports.”
The volleyball team missed one game and a weekend tournament in the wake of Isidore.
The volleyball team did not participate in the Sewanee Invitational at the University of the South in Tennessee because of travel concerns. The tournament was scheduled for Sept. 27-28, but there has been no make-up date set yet.
According to Head Coach Greg Castillo, the time off has different effects.”Missing games are never a good thing, but we play the same style week in and week out,” he said. “We just need to remember how to play our style, and we will continue to win.”
The wolfpack’s match against Spring Hill on Sept. 24 was cancelled. It has been rescheduled for Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. in Mobile, Ala.
The soccer team missed two road matches scheduled for the rained out weekend of Isidore.
On Sept. 28, the ‘Pack was scheduled to take on Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn.
The following day, the soccer team was scheduled to travel to Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss. There have been no make-up dates set.
The other members of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference have faced the same problems as the ‘Pack with cancellations from Isidore.
According to Garvey, the ‘Pack should be able to handle the time off and even improve.
“Everyone was in the same boat as we were, so it shouldn’t have too great of an impact on us,” he said.
