BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — If you love that yellow shade of LSU gold, Saturday’s game against Arkansas may not be the game for you.
On the other hand, if you like your team to be the one on the front of the fashion trends, then the Tigers regular-season finale has your name on it.
LSU broke out a new uniform, to be worn in Saturday’s game only, in a rally Monday at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
The uniforms are part of the Nike Pro Combat line, which Nike claims is 37 percent lighter (23.7 ounces vs. 37.4 ounces) than normal uniforms. They also do not hold moisture, meaning theyre even lighter than normal uniforms when wet, Nike claims.
The uniforms are not only made differently. They also have a different look.
The gold is richer and slightly darker more old gold and the stripe that runs vertically on the shoulders is replaced by a stripe that runs horizontally at the shoulder with purple in the middle, gold on the outside, but also a purple outline on the edges.
While LSU normally wears gold pants with white jerseys, these uniforms feature white pants with the white jerseys.
But LSU traditionalists will be happy to know that the tiger logo on the helmet is the same.
“I’ve been wearing the same thing for five years, so I like it,” said senior defensive end Rahim Alem, who will play his last regular-season game in the new garb. “It’s about time we tried something new.”
LSU is one of 10 teams playing a game in the Nike Pro Combat gear this season.
Charles Scott and Richard Murphy, two of LSU’s injured running backs, modeled the new look at the rally, and Eddie Kennison and Anthony McFarland, ex-Tigers and former NFL players, were also there.
