TGIFF: Thank God it’s Fancy Friday

Decked out in suits and ties and pencil skirts, Loyola students are taking the time to make Fridays a bit more classy.

Students Jay Laws, Blane Mader, Gracie Palmer, Ben Weil and Nick Morea aim to start the trend of dressing up in their fanciest clothing and wear it to their classes every Friday.

Laws, music industry studies freshman, said that the reasoning behind Fancy Friday was to show everyone that even after a long and maybe stressful week, you can still end the week on a good note.

“People ask me why I’m dressed up and I tell them it’s Fancy Friday. I then ask if they want to join me next time, and generally, they say yes,” Laws said. “It makes you feel better. It makes everything look better, and it’s totally worth it because everybody loves looking nice.”

Blane Mader, philosophy pre-law sophomore, said that a big part of the fun is finding the right outfit. He encourages others to wear whatever they want because there really are no restrictions.

“It’s not to say you have to wear a suit. You can wear a blazer and a tie or a button down shirt. We don’t have strict rules, it doesn’t even have to be that you have to dress up every Friday, we just want everyone to feel included,” Mader said.
