The flight took off from Egypt with many Russian passengers with the intent of landing in St. Petersburg. Within 23 minutes, it crashed in Northern Sinai.
Multiple aviation experts have questioned if a bomb was the cause, others say it could have been faulty landing equipment.
James R. Clapper, director of national intelligence, told the Associated Press,”that while there is no direct evidence of any terrorist involvement yet, it couldn’t be excluded that the plane was brought down by Islamic State extremists.”
When Putin’s spokesman was asked about possibly terrorist involvement, he told the Associated Press, “No versions could be excluded.” Mourners have been coming to St. Petersburg’s airport with family pictures, stuffed animals and flowers. Investigations are ongoing into what caused the crash.
