With racial tensions developing among students at the University of Missouri, historically black organizations banded together between the campuses of Loyola and Tulane University to show solidarity on Nov. 12.
Loyola and Tulane’s Black Student Unions and the Living Our Vision Everyday chapter of the National Association of Black Women Clubs as well as Brothers for Progress came together on social media outlets to showcase their support for Mizzou students using the hashtag #BlackOutForBlackLives.
Loyola students gathered in the Peace Quad at 12:30 p.m. to take a photograph before walking to Freret Street for a photo with Tulane’s BSU.
Loyola’s BSU held a separate speak out event on Tuesday, Nov. 17 to address the issues that black students at predominantly white institutions face in the wake of the incidents at Mizzou.
