NOPD increases police presence

The New Orleans Police Department has added 54 officers to the neighborhood patrol as part of the first phase of massive reconstruction within the department to reduce violent crime.

The effort is based on a review that analyzed department staffing and resources to determine the most efficient structuring of the NOPD. After the review, the NOPD needed to add a minimum of 94 officers.

As of now, 56 recruits are training in the academy who are expected to graduate in April.
