International business sophomore Blake Corley has been elected vice president of the Student Government Association for the 2013-2014 academic year.
Corley said he is especially “excited” for his term as vice president of SGA because of all the “attention” SGA has been receiving lately.
“I’m coming into office at such a buzzworthy and exciting time for SGA. There is currently a lot of attention, both positive and negative,” Corley said.
Corley said that the current press surrounding SGA is motivating Jasmine Barnes, mass communication junior and SGA president for the 2013-2014 academic year, and himself to achieve better.
“We want students to understand what SGA does and who we are. If students don’t even know who their senators are, then we aren’t doing our job correctly. We want to be there for 100 percent of the students,” Corley said.
One of the main concerns Corley focused on during his campaign is the idea of transparency.
“I really think we will have a fantastic Senate next semester. We will focus on transparency and being there for the students. That is our main goal,” Corley said.
In addition to serving as freshman senator for the College of Business and senior senator-at-large of SGA in his time at Loyola, Corley recently became vice president of Pi Kappa Phi, the newly chartered fraternity on Loyola’s campus.
