Dear Editor,
Liz Scott Monaghan is generous with her rightly deserved praise for the Maroon’s reporters and editors (On the Record, Sept. 22, 2006). But she deserves a bouquet of kudos herself for having taught, coached, corrected, cajoled, consoled, kicked and applauded Maroon staff members over the years during which she was their adviser.
I need a Roget’s-worth of verbs to describe the ways in which their beloved “P. Scott” brought them to understand what the role of the journalist is, whether off campus or on, and how to perform that role competently. But always lovingly, with love for her student journalists and love for journalism – and love for Loyola, her alma mater, where she herself became a first-rate journalist.
