The University Programming Board is a group of students comprised of three committees who provide programs and events for the Loyola student body.
In return, UPB asks Loyola students to provide insight as to what they would want to see on campus and to enjoy themselves at the events.
“Have a good time when (you) come to our events. We are there for the students and to program for them; therefore we want them to have a good time,” said David Garcia, vice president of membership and psychology junior.
Garcia urges students to come to the UPB meetings and be a part of the process that brings programs to Loyola.
“We need more student involvement to know what the body wants,” Garcia said.
When planning programs, UPB goes through a process of brainstorming and collectively thinking of what would please the student body.
Students can be a part of this by coming to the Thursday meetings. The members of UPB welcome new faces, new ideas and different perspectives.
“Our meetings are open to anyone and all ideas and input are welcome. If someone has an event they would like to see on campus, they can talk about it at a meeting and be paired up with the head of that committee,” said Tracy Kinamore, UPB president and psychology senior.
This month, UPB has four events planned: a blockbuster movie, laser tag, a Loyola carnival and a murder mystery game.
The blockbuster movie “It’s Kind of a Funny Story” will be shown in the Res Quad Jan. 14 at 7 p.m.
Students will be able to play Tron, an inflatable laser tag game, Jan. 15 at 6 p.m.
The Loyola Carnival will be UPB’s first Third Friday event of 2011.
On Jan. 21, students will be able to come out to the Res Quad from 3:30-5:00 p.m. and play games, win prizes and have free food, including cotton candy.
A murder mystery game with a Harry Potter theme is scheduled to take place Jan. 29.
UPB has open meetings every week on Thursdays during the window from 12:30-2:00 p.m. in Gallery Room A, across from Satchmo’s.
