Lauren Jaffe, public relations junior, was named a runner up in the student of the year competition sponsored by national trade magazine “PR Week.”
Jaffe, treasurer of Loyola’s Public Relations Student Society of America, entered the finals in December with a proposal, pitch letter and news release created for client, sunglasses manufacturer, Ray-Ban.
Jaffe was notified of her finalist status in January.
“I had to put together a whole campaign in two weeks,” she said. “I presented it in New York and pitched a story about Ray Ban to Fortune magazine. It was a great experience.”
She worked quickly when the judges presented the finalists with a mock crisis involving their client.
She had one hour to “get together a campaign” and present it to the judges.
On March 6, Jaffe was flown to New York to attend the final day of judging where she won a $1,000 cash prize and a paid internship with Weber Shandwick Public Relations agency.
Weber Shandwick, the largest PR agency in the world, counts Ray Ban as one of its clients.
“The event was big stuff,” Jaffe said. “Every big agency came up there … [like] people from the Spiderman campaign. I was really excited.”
Jaffe was one of five finalists in the national competition.
