I wanted to thank Connie Rodriguez for her response to my earlier editorial, the one in which I propose that we bulldoze the Iberville Projects. We most certainly disagree on the matter, but she takes the time to consider my thoughts and I appreciate that. Just to clarify a few points, I am strongly in favor of low income housing. I just happen to think that the project system does much more harm than good. I hope we can come up with a better way. As for the mixed use neighborhood model that I think she advocates, downtown real estate today is just too danged expensive for that; Better a high end arts and entertainment area to generate income and provide jobs, much of which will be for lower income folks. Finally, I would love to read Plato’s Symposium in the original Greek as Connie suggests but, alas, I fear I lack her linguistic skills. It is our good fortune, however, to have someone like Dr. Rodriguez to help us plum the thoughts of great thinkers like Plato and of not so great thinkers such as my poor self.
Sincerely,
