Even though Elizabeth Coyne may not have been in a sorority herself, the new adviser for Loyola’s chapter of the National Panhellenic Council said she is still confident she can take on the job.
Coyne, who is also the new associate director of co-curricular activities, comes to Loyola after working as a graduate assistant for two years at Sacred Heart College in Fairfield, Conn.
She received her undergraduate degree in business administration with a concentration in marketing and also earned a master’s degree in business administration with a concentration in management from Sacred Heart College.
“After that I decided I wanted to stay in higher education and maintain a small school atmosphere,” Coyne said.
Loyola fit all of Coyne’s criteria for a new job, including a location away from the northeast, which is why she chose Loyola.
Coyne came to Loyola knowing that she would be advising the university programming board .
However, she didn’t get duties as National Panhellenic Council adviser until she arrived.
“I’m incredibly excited and I’m positive about the opportunity to work with both organizations,” Coyne said.
Although she wasn’t involved with Greek life during college, Coyne said she is a supporter of the Greek system.
“I was involved with helping to promote the Greek organizations on campus and making sure they had the best opportunities so I think just my passion for the organizations and everything they do will help with my position as the NPC advisor,” Coyne said.
Coyne admits she doesn’t have a lot of knowledge on the Interfraternity Council suspensions.
However, she is confident all issues will be resolved.
“I do think the school is willing to work with everyone as best as possible to bring the organizations back,” Coyne said.
As for UPB, Coyne says that she has a couple of ideas for new events but it will mostly be left up to the students.
“UPB and NPC are student run organizations and I don’t like to tell them what to do. I like them to have their own experience and have the creative license to plan their own events. I’ve had my time,” Coyne said.
Coyne said she is excited to be working for the organizations.
“I really want both organizations to have the opportunity to utilize me as a resource as much as possible and put their best foot forward on campus and organize events and increase recruitment and attendance to events,” Coyne said.
