You put your back into it, Dining Services, but you still cause a lot of inconvenience. You feed the student body with good meals, no matter how repetitive the menu may be, and you try to please the masses at the same time, but some things just aren’t working.
Satchmo’s sandwiches sound so good, but does it ever stay open long enough to serve them? Its posted hours say it should be open until 10 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, but every time I go — with the exception of live shows — it’s a ghost town.
Kudos on the vegan station in the Orleans Room. I’ve only seen meat grace its stovetop once or twice each week. It’s great to see that we have options, but the Orleans Room is only open until 8 p.m. I have been good about making it in the nick of time, but even then, most of the food is put away. I don’t even think about making it to breakfast during the week either. The Orleans Room is worse than fast food restaurants — at least their breakfast lasts until 10:30 a.m.
I’m glad you’ve wised up and given us healthy choices at the salad bar. The oil and vinegar was a great addition, but new salad options don’t make up for the inconvenience of making time to eat those salads.
Wolf Bucks are tight for many at the end of the semester, and while most are limited to Orleans Room meals now, they lack the time to sit down and eat them.
This is college, where people pop dextroamphetamines — scientific term for those “awake pills” — like candy to gain more hours in the day. I’m tired of smuggling sandwiches in my coat pockets like I’m an arms dealer in Serbia. I know that we are part of an eco-friendly school, but if Flambeaux’s can employ take out boxes made of potatoes, why can’t the Orleans Room? If there is concern about large amounts of trash, set aside a bin just for food scraps to be composted, and another for the left over potato-ware to be recycled.
As I said, I find myself out of Wolf Bucks a month before the semester ends, but I’m stocked with meals at the Orleans Room. Maybe next semester I should only purchase Wolf Bucks and skip the bland pizza and cardboard — I mean veggie burgers — that the Orleans Room offers. For now, I must schedule my day around the Orleans Room, but can’t a guy at least get the option of crumbled feta and Kalamata olives at the salad bar?
