In 7th grade, Wolfpack high-flying forward McArthur “Fruga” Strickland realized he could do what a lot of kids his age couldn’t: dunk on a regulation-sized basketball goal.
And not just on NBA Live for the Playstation, but on the basketball court his class played on for recess.”Oh man. It was one of the most exciting times in my whole life.”
So, not that most of you are tall enough or baller enough to do so, but if you want to know how to throw down a dunk, heed “Mac-Daddy” Strickland’s wisdom.
1. Start at the half-court line. You got to get your momentum, so you can’t go to fast or too slow. Go for 60 percent speed when you take off.
2. Know your distance from the goal and how far you can jump. When you get to the take-off point, step hard with your lead foot (for Strickland, his left). On the next step, plant both.
3. Dip with your knees and explode up with your arms.
4. You dunk the ball through the hoop on the way down. Throw it through there. Grab the rim to secure that it goes through and doesn’t rim out.
5. Don’t forget to get krunk when you land.
