Marc Manganaro will be the new provost and vice president of Academic Affairs as of July 1.
Currently, Manganaro is dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and an English professor at Gonzaga University in Washington state.
“I am pleased to welcome Marc to Loyola,” said University President the Rev. Kevin Wildes, S.J., in an email. “His academic background, scholarship and commitment to the mission of Jesuit education as well as his extensive administrative experience make him an excellent choice for Loyola.”
As he learned more about Loyola, he said he became increasingly interested in the university and in the city. “When I left after my two days at Loyola, it reaffirmed how much I wanted to be a part of this community,” he said.
Manganaro will be replacing Ed Kvet, current provost and vice president of Academic Affairs, who will be retiring after this academic year.
Manganaro said he is thrilled to join the Loyola community. “I am privileged to come into this very strong Jesuit university and be able to apply my experience and my own imagination as I work with colleagues,” he said.
He expects his experiences as an administrator and faculty member will serve him well as provost and vice president of Academic Affairs at Loyola. Manganaro said he feels his experience of being at a Jesuit university has prepared him to pursue the mission of Jesuit higher education. He also has experience with some of the duties of the provost and vice president of Academic Affairs, such as hiring faculty and helping to design budgets.
Manganaro said he would like to express his sincere gratitude to the search committee and College of Humanities and Natural Sciences Dean Jo Ann Cruz, who served as committee chairwoman, as well as Wildes, who he said has been very accommodating and committed to making him feel welcome, and Kvet for spending time with him and extending his congratulations.
Manganaro said he looks forward to walking in Kvet’s footsteps. “He’s paved a road here, which is a good one to walk upon, with the confidence he’s instilled in the community,” he said. “I am grateful for that.”
