If you or your family had damage, unplanned expenses or lost income due to Hurricane Isaac and you do not currently receive assistance from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, you are eligible to apply for the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Program. The Department of Agriculture approved funding for DSNAP, formerly known as disaster food stamps, in nine parishes, according to a press release from the governor’s office. This is assistance available for families who need help buying groceries due to Hurricane Isaac. You can call to pre-apply and then visit a SNAP site on a predetermined date for approval. If you live in Ascension, Jefferson, Lafourche, Livingston, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. John the Baptist or St. Tammany, you can apply.
