La Divina Gelateria still cooking after a year

 

La Divina Gelateria, Loyola’s newest on-campus dining, has turned out to be a hit with the Loyola and Tulane community.

Since its opening in fall 2010, business has been great, according to Katrina Turillo, one of the co-owners.

La Divina is a New Orleans café that opened its first location in 2007 on Magazine Street, and then later added another location in the French Quarter on St. Peters Street. Expanding to a college campus was a big step for the small, family-owned restaurant, but with this past year being such a success, it has been well worth it, Turillo said.

All of La Divina’s food is made from scratch, according to Turillo.

“There really is something for everyone and we’re always working on adding new items to the menu,” said Olia Friedrichs, employee and music business freshman.

Rosalind Santos, theater freshman, said she enjoys going to La Divina.

“It’s a good place to take a study

break and listen to music on their big plasma TV while eating a tasty Italian sandwich with friends,” Santos said.

Turillo said that opening up at Loyola has been a positive and pleasant experience and being part of a college community has been nice.

“As long as Loyola will have us, we would love to stay,” Turillo said.
