“If you were a coffee at Starbucks, which would you be?”
This question, among others, appeared on the UPB-sponsored compatibility surveys handed out in the Danna Center last week. Students received a free heart-shaped lollipop upon completing the survey, and hoped that their true love would also be a Caramel Macchiato.
UPB member and creator of the event Sarah Bearden, marketing sophomore, and other UPB members discussed the idea at a recent meeting. One member had used the surveys in high school, she said. After some research, the board decided on Data Match – a Web site that provides the surveys for school fundraising events.
Students laughed at the many tongue in cheek questions and answers on the surveys. Jasmine Blue, a music performance freshman, liked a question on YouTube viewing habits the most.
“The question asked what my favorite videos are, and they’re usually comedies. But the choice asking “What’s YouTube?” was pretty funny. I almost picked that one,” she said.
Other answer choices provided wacky variety. Students’ favorite elective course could either be Competitive Sleeping, Happy Hour 101 or Tattoo Design.
After completing the survey, UPB submitted each student’s answers to Data Match, which then matched each student’s responses with the top fifteen people they are most compatible with. Students could choose to be paired only with others in their same class year or in other years.
Although Valentine’s Day is near, Bearden said that the survey isn’t just about finding love.
“It’s more of a compatibility survey,” she said.”It’s about finding common interests – who do you get along with? It’s more of a friend test.”
“It’s an easy way for people to get to know each other, and UPB covers the cost of the testing,” said Cat Freese, music industry studies freshman and UPB member.
Students receive their compatibility lists on Feb. 12, giving them two days before the big holiday to choose their mate.
“I just hope the students enjoy seeing the results and find humor in it,” Bearden said.
