Dear Editor,
The U.S. Congress should approve “Nunn-Lugar Cooperative Threat Reduction Act of 2005” (S.313). The Act provides funding for “dismantling, destroying, and securing weapons and materials left over from the Soviet WMD arsenal,” and as such is essential to the U.S. national security. Nuclear weapons must not fall into the hands of Usama bin Laden and his cronies. We must not dismiss this as a nominal threat; the consequences are horrid. April 26th, 1986 Chernobyl’ exploded. There should not be a “Chernobyl” in the United States. The Nunn-Lugar Act should be approved.
