Imagine that, The Maroon being ignorant of Catholic teaching (“Pope’s passing ends long reign, begins new era for Catholics,” April 8).
The positions the pope held on homosexuality, abortion, the ordination of women, etc., were not “his” beliefs per se, but the Roman Catholic Church’s teachings.
He believed them because the Church holds them to be true.
These teachings are not up for debate, any more than the sum of 2+2 is up for debate.
Why? Because they are the truth. I would expect more from a newspaper at a Catholic university.
