Leadership Award Nominations
Award nominations are being accepted for the Spirit of Loyola Awards 2005-06 and the Mary Ann Reising Flynn Scholarship. Spirit of Loyola Awards are given to students or student organizations that have commendable leadership qualities. These awards are the highest leadership honor that can be given or received. The Mary Ann Reising Flynn Scholarship is given to a freshman or sophomore woman who portrays excellence in character, leadership and community service. Nomination forms are available online at: www.loyno.edu/csld/MaryAnnFlynnSc.pdf.
Winners of these awards will be honored on April 20 at the 24th Annual Student Leadership Recognition Banquet & Student Organization Adviser’s Reception. The reception for the Student Leadership Recognition Banquet will be held in the St. Charles room at 6:30 p.m. The reception for the Advisor’s will be in the Senior Common Room from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
Nominations are being accepted in the Student Affairs Office until Feb. 21.
Discussion forums progress to environment
The College of Arts and Sciences Faculty Forum and the Loyola First-Year Experience will be holding the third of four discussions on Hurricane Katrina on Thursday at 7 p.m. The department has held two forums, “New Orleans culture and how it can be saved” and “The Media and Katrina.” The discussion this Thursday will encompass New Orleans’ environment before and after Katrina. Crescent City artists, writers, professors and reporters will be present. These panelists include: John Barry, author of Rising Tide: The Great Mississippi Flood 1927 and How it Changed America; Carlton Dufrechou, Executive Director of Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation; and Mark Schleifstein, Pulitzer Prize-winning environmental reporter for The Times-Picayune. The discussion will be held in Nunemaker Auditorium, located in Monroe Hall.
