How to make a kite

What you’ll need:

  • this newspaper (click and print the photo)
  • two straws
  • tape
  • scissors
  • string

Step 1:

Cut one straw down to five inches and the other to 7 1/2 inches.

Step 2:

Measure 2 1/2 inches down the longest straw and cut two small slits and slide the shorter straw through it. Next, wrap the intersection with string.

Step 3:

Cut another small slit at the top of each end of the straws. Next, put string through those slits and wrap it around to create a frame.

Step 4:

Cut out the kite along the dotted lines. Then, lay the frame on the kite and fold the excess over the string and tape it down.

Step 5:

Poke a small hole in kite at the intersection of the two straws. Next, cut about two feet of string, tape one end to the kite and feed it into the hole, through the back. Tape the other end in the same place as the first. Tie a loop in the string. Tie the rest of the string through this loop.

Step 6:

Finally, cut a tail about one-half inch wide and two feet long and tape it to the kite.
