The University Police dispatch reported an attempted suicide on campus on Sunday, March 7.
The incident took place on the third floor of the Cabra Residence Hall on Loyola’s Broadway campus. University Police would not give out any further information.
There is no official tracking record for college-age suicide attempts, but, according to a recent article in The New York Times, suicide is believed to be the second leading cause of death, behind accidents, among college students.
According to a recent report by Dr. Alan Lipschitz, college-age suicides are typically different than all other cases.
Most college-age victims of suicide are largely depressed, quiet, socially-isolated young people who do not abuse alcohol or drugs and who draw little attention to themselves.
Students who feel they may be suffering from any of these symptoms should contact Counseling Services at 865-3835 or [email protected], or contact the University Police at 865-3434.
