Etcetera, Loyola’s gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender organization, is planning to host “Flapper,” a 1920s-themed cabaret party this Saturday, Nov. 15 in the St. Charles Room.
The festivities are scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. and will feature Oz drag queens, including Bianca Del Rio and Tommy Alias, performing songs from the Broadway production “Chicago.”
In keeping with the theme of the party, ’20s, flapper, or cabaret attire is welcome, but not mandatory to enjoy the festivities.
Don’t know what constituted fashionable attire 80 years ago?
Girls can look fashionably ’20s in sequins, fringe, boas, and pearls. For the guys, it’s a suit, colorful bow tie, cap, and cane.
Cocktail hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be available, as well as a cash-bar serving wine and beer for $2 a glass.
“The money and support raised from “Flapper” will “create additional funds to put on Gayla next year,” said Arthur Stern, the advisor to Etcetera and Loyola’s Associate Director of Publication and Marketing.
Gayla, scheduled for April 17, benefits the Geoffrey Scholarship, which is awarded to a student who is devoted to serving the lesbian and gay population.
Recognized services range from helping troubled teens deal with sexuality issues to working with AIDS patients.
Last year, Gayla raised more than $6,500 to fund the endowed scholarship and is aiming to meet the goal of $10,000 this year.
As for other Etcetera events to look out for, Stern says the group is “focusing on these two fund raisers, but will be planning other events in the early part of next semester.”
Tickets can be purchased with cash or check today between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. in front of the Danna Center, at the door Saturday night or by e-mailing [email protected].
The admission prices are as follows: $140 for a table of eight, $20 for faculty, staff and non-students, $15 for students with IDs, and $10 for Etcetera members.
