In October of 1985, several faculty members addressed their concern of students’ poor writing, making clear that these errors were pointing to a lack of understanding in vocabulary, language and writing skills. After several reports were made, the university decided to implement a new academic program concentrating on grammar, spelling, analytical skills and critical thinking. This program would be named Writing Across the Curriculum, with the goal of ensuring students’ achievement of writing proficiency while they are in college.
