Loyola’s got talent. Just ask anyone that attended the Black Student Union’s Talent Show on Friday Sept. 19 in Satchmo’s.
The Talent Show included acts ranging from the angelic voices of Genesis Gospel Choir to the unique rhymes of rapper G-Eazy.
“It was wonderful to see this place finally being used for what it was designed to do: showcase talent,” Chris Cameron, director of Co-Curricular Programs, said.
The judges for the event were Vice President of Academic Affairs Cissy Petty; Center of Intercultural Understanding Director/professor Lisa Martin; Student Government Association President Cade Cypriano; University Programming Board President Braxton Bernard; last year’s winner, Riva Precil; and senior Black Student Union member, Jerina Phillips.
“This is the new BSU,” Catrina Shaw, psychology senior, said.
Winners of the talent show included singer and music performance freshman Andreca Johnson (1st place), spoken word artist and international business freshman Elleni Giorgis (2nd place) and singer and music freshman Erika Flowers (3rd place).
The BSU has been planning programs that will allow others to gain a better understanding of black culture while still promoting and supporting other ethnicities and organizations.
Be on the lookout for WHATS on the Runway: Fashion Show for a Cause! to be held Oct. 12 in the St. Charles Room. This event will raise money for a charity that contributes towards AIDS research and awareness.
