In response to the article “Little Mike throws in the towel” written on Oct. 6:
The phrase “throw in the towel” that was used in the headline implies defeat. It came into common usage from its original use in the boxing ring where a contender would surrender to his opponent by throwing in his towel to the center of the ring.
Mike Duplessis is not a defeated man, and he
has not surrendered. He is retiring from a long career of service at our Uptown universities. I realize the article never indicated that Duplessis has surrendered, and it is quite well-written. I’m merely suggesting that the Maroon needs to be careful with word choice in headlines.
