The Loyola Administrative Senate has proposed adding term limits for its members.
The proposal, which will be discussed in further detail at February’s meeting, would allow for more changes in the composition of the committee.
Currently, after a senate member serves their two consecutive four-year terms, they must wait one year before running again; members are free to run as many times as they like after the first year off.
Senate Chairman Bret Jacobs said that because the senate’s sole purpose is to advise the Rev. Kevin Wildes, S.J., he would not feel opposed to an occasional change in the status quo.
He believes that the composition of future senates should contain “balance between institutional knowledge and history.”
However, not all members were on board with the proposal.
Charles Marshall of the Finance and Administration committee had concerns about the potential influx of new senate members without much background.
The 14-year senate member cited the frequent turnover in Student Affairs, where potential members must have at least one year’s experience.
Approximately half of that committee’s members are up for annual re-elections.
