Dear Editor,
(Re: “Security Needs Helping Hands,” April 18. 2008) I am an avid reader of the Maroon; I make sure that I pick up every copy published. I was dismayed when I read the past issue’s letter to the editor.
I do agree with what was said about how students need to monitor who comes into the buildings as much as the desk assistants do, but who wants to be that person that asks to see someone’s identification at five in the morning? Yes, it needs to be done, but who is actually going to do that? I know I personally would be embarrassed to ask someone to see their ID.
Even though it is said that it needs to be done, I feel no one is actually going to do it. To continue on this subject but in a positive note I would like to say I enjoy seeing people working at the Buddig Hall desk when I return home.
I work at a bar, mostly on weekends, and I normally do not get in before five in the morning. I know when I get home that early and there is someone at the desk, it gives me a sense of ease.
I know for a fact someone who isn’t supposed to be in the building is not going to be there. It may be an inconvenience for the desk assistants, but it sure does give piece of mind to the residents of this building. I am a junior and I still am comforted by the fact that there is someone at the front desk.
Sincerely,Elisabeth Tuebnercriminal justice junior
