Loyola faculty member Peggy McCormack died on Tuesday, Feb. 21. McCormack was an English professor at Loyola since 1981.
She taught courses on American film and literature and British fiction. She also served as director of Loyola’s film studies program, and previously served as chairwoman of the English department and English writing major.
McCormack attended the University of St. Thomas in Houston where she received her B.A., then earned her Ph.D. from Rice University. She returned to the University of St. Thomas to begin her teaching career.
McCormack started Writing Across the Curriculum at Loyola, a program that offers services to help students improve their writing and help assist faculty in designing writing assignments.
According to a press release by the university, the McCormack family has requested a memorial service at Loyola, as no funeral services are planned. A celebration of McCormack’s life is in the works.
