A murder, a convenience storyerobbery, a carjacking, an attempted carjacking and a suspicious event occurred in the university area during the past two weeks. A man died from gunshot wounds in his neighborhood March 8 at 6:05 p.m. on the 7300 block of Pitt Street. Thegunman shot the victim and then drove away, according the New Orleans Police Department.
A man robbed a Circle K March 9 at 9:10 a.m. on the 6200 block of S. Claiborne Avenue. The robber handed the cashier a note demanding the money, then fled on foot with the small amount of cash from the register.
A man stole a car and temporarily kidnapped its owner on March 11 at 2 a.m. in the 900 block of Lowerline Street. After parking, the owner walked across the street and a man approached her with a handgun. The man forced the woman back to her car, and each drove until they stopped at Broadway and Freret streets. After the woman fled, the suspect drove off with the car.
A man may have attempted to steal a car from a Loyola law student on March 6 at 9:15 p.m. art Benjamin and Pine streets. After getting into her car, the student immediately locked her door. A man began to bang on her window and motioned to his waistband as if he had a gun. The student drove away, and the suspect did not pursue her.
A woman felt she was in danger on March 4 at 4:55 p.m. at Pine Street and St. Charles Avenue. The woman reported she was being followed by a man. When she stopped so did he, and when she turned around he did also. No physical contact, communication or threat of a weapon was present, and the man was deterred after the woman quickly walked to her car.
