The “Bustin’ Out” music series, organized and started by a Loyola student, hosts its third show of the series on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at 9 p.m. at the Little Gem Saloon.

Leslie Gamboni, mass communication senior, developed the music series to be held on the first three Wednesdays in November.

Gamboni said the plan for the event is to get up-and-coming bands to play for young professionals.

Gamboni said the idea for “Bustin’ Out” stemmed from her involvement with the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts. Musician Oliver Bonie helped her launch the event.

“Oliver and I both went to NOCCA together,” Gamboni said. “I used to host NOCCA nights at a coffee shop nearby.”

Gamboni said that she had more time on her hands this year, and now that she’s working at the Little Gem Saloon, she was able to bring her music series idea to life.

“I wanted to create an event from the ground up,” Gamboni said.

Planet Earth, the band that opened up the first event of the series on Nov. 6, is a local band composed of Erin Demastes, A’11, Simon Lott and Nathan Lambertson.

Demastes said the idea for this event first came together because Gamboni asked the band to play.

“I’ve only played at Little Gem a few times at happy hour doing solo piano,” Demastes said. “Leslie heard us at a Merged Music series event and thought we would fit her idea for this.”

Rachel Enav, psychology senior, said she attended the first Wednesday night event at the Little Gem Saloon. Enav said the music was “amazing” and the discounted drinks made the night better.

“They were serving drinks at a discount for women,” Enav said. “I got to drink for cheap, so that was pretty cool. Planet Earth was great they had a very chill vibe.”

Gamboni said women will receive a complimentary drink dedicated to the memory of political activist Pauline Sabin.

“Pauline Sabin was a powerful female figure in her time, acting as a political and prohibition repeal leader,” Gamboni said. “We like to honor those who serve as role models and inspire female empowerment, therefore we wanted to offer the treat of a free cocktail to women in her honor.”

Gamboni said the series will continue into Wednesdays in December.

“Depending on how it goes after our first two trial months, the series will continue and become a staple event at Little Gem Saloon,” said Gamboni.
