If a night on the town isn’t your forte, then a cozy night in with popcorn, pajamas and a vintage movie is your best bet.
Set in Salem, Mass. the movie opens in 1693 as three witches played by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy are executed for sucking the life out of a young girl, Emily Binx. Just before they were executed, however, they cast a spell which would bring them back to life if a virgin lit a black flame candle on Halloween night.
In 1993, 300 years later, Max Dennison, a skeptical adolescent, lit the candle in hopes of impressing a girl and frightening his sister. The trio, along with a talking cat, then spend the rest of the night trying to protect the children of Salem by reversing the spell before sunrise.
Disney’s “Hocus Pocus” casts a spell, ranking it as a definite Halloween must re-see DVD.
