Kindle Fire makes searching library reserves simpler

Digging through giant books on reserve may be a thing of the past now.

Monroe Library recently purchased a new Kindle Fire to provide a different method for students to find books and readings to complete their assignments.

The Kindle Fire was placed in the Learning Commons desk where students will be able to check it out in order to access the many books available on the device.

The Kindle will also be used by professors to upload reading materials. This way, students will be able to quickly find the information uploaded by the professor.

Keyoka Kinzy, who works at the library, believes that the addition of a Kindle Fire will be an incentive for students to use library reserves.

“You don’t see that many people use the Learning Commons desk,” Kinzy said. “I feel that by adding the Kindle Fire people will actually want to come to the Learning Commons and check out what can be useful for their class. Also, the fact that it’s something as modern as a Kindle Fire will make people actually want to check it out.”

English senior Joey Macasieb likes the addition of this new technology to the library.

“The Kindle is definitely a plus,” he said. “I hate when professors put a book on reserve and you have to search through an entire encyclopedia just to find a little piece of data. The Kindle will make finding something in particular on a book much easier.”

The Kindle Fire is available at the Learning Commons desk, where students are able to find reserves for their classes.
