Loyola announces change to health plan

Staff Report

Beginning in January, Loyola will move its employee health coverage from BlueCross BlueShiled of Louisiana, and will instead contract with UnitedHealthcare, according to a letter released to employees Friday morning.

The letter says that the change was in response to an increase in premiums from BlueCross, and will result in “significant monthly premium savings” for employees, depending on which plan they chose.

The Rev. Kevin Wildes, S.J., university president, wrote in the letter that an analysis conducted by the university showed that the new insurer will cover approximately 97 percent of the providers that BlueCross covered. A full list of covered networks can be found at UnitedHealthcare’s website.
