On Monday afternoon, May 1, Fr. Kevin Wildes, S.J. sent out an email announcing that Loyola has hired Sybol Cook Anderson, Ph.D., as the new chief diversity officer. According to the email, her job duties will include reporting directly to Fr. Wildes and leading the development and implementation of Loyola’s diversity and inclusion practices.
Anderson comes to Loyola from St. Mary’s College of Maryland where she spent two years leading the campus in an initiative focused at developing and refining diversity and inclusion policies. While at St. Mary’s, she was also the lead architect and director of the DeSousa-Brent Scholars Program, an academic program for underrepresented students.
Anderson will replace sociology instructor Liv Nevman, Ph.D. who served as the interim chief diversity officer. While in the position, the email states Newman lead the Office of Diversity and Inclusion by assessing the “campus climate” and creating an accompanying implementation plan.
Anderson will officially arrive at Loyola on August 1.
