Brief: Tennis falls to Alcorn State

Loyola men’s and women’s tennis team lost to Alcorn State University on Saturday, March 16, at City Park. The men lost 3-6 while the women fell 0-9 to the NCAA Division I school. The men’s team (4-7) was led by a great effort by international business freshman Tarun Surat and international business freshman Jaron Belcher. The two freshmen are doubles partners and were able to defeat Ernesto Santillan and Ivan Umnikov 8-4. The women’s team (3-8) fell 0-9. Biology sophomore Meghan de Baroncelli won three games in the first set against Kersten Vanem, but in the second set she fell 3-6, 0-6 at the number one singles spot. The tennis team’s next games are April 3 against Spring Hill at 3 p.m. in City Park, and April 5 against University of New Orleans at 2:30 p.m.
