Mike Tomlin, head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, was fined $100,000 for his interference in a game on Wednesday against the Baltimore Ravens. Tomlin stepped onto the field during a play in which Jacoby Jones, Ravens’ wide receiver, was returning a punt kick up the field. Jones had to veer away from Tomlin, which caused him to trip up and be tackled.
The punishment was imposed by NFL executive vice president of football operations Ray Anderson. Tomlin’s mishap will hurt not only his wallet, but his team as well. The Steelers could potentially face a negative impact on their draft picks, which will not be revealed until the 2014 season has ended. This punishment is the most severe the NFL has seen since the former New York Jets strength coach tripped a player from Miami in a game in 2010.
