A new law by Governor Jeff Landy requiring the Ten Commandments to be displayed in public school classrooms sparked a lawsuit by Louisiana parents and state officials. Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill called the attempt “premature” and urged the lawsuit be dismissed until the law is in full effect. Louisiana officials presented several poster examples in compliance with the new law. These prototypes listed the Ten Commandments alongside quotes and works by Moses, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

“Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should ‘make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,’ thus building a wall of separation between Church and State.” — Thomas Jefferson
Transalation: the State cannot dictate one religion over another. Placing only the Ten Commandments in school crosses that line.
How about we make schools just be schools. Places to learn, not to preach.
